Volvo Cars forecasts that one-third of its sales will be autonomous-driving by 2025, according to a new statement by CEO Hakan Samuelsson said in a statement.
The Swedish brand, owned by Chinese automaker Geely is amidst a renaissance under its owner, and has been asserting its credibility through technology objectives, as well as new crossovers that have struck a chord with the public. Last year, Volvo sold more than 571,000 vehicles globally.
The forecast is based, in part, says Samuelsson, on goals for selling to so-called “robo-taxis,” which are driverless taxis that will operate in European, Chinese and U.S. cities.
